Quote from something I posted elsewhere

I have lots of problems with "End Times" stuff, it's like hardcore porn for Fundies.

It is!

What struck me about it, growing up in Virginia, was how it seems to be a teaching that exists to make sure none of the True Believers have to feel they have responsibility over anything. The environment? Hey, trash it. Jesus is coming soon! Personal ethics? I'm saved, not perfect! Attitude towards other people? This car will be found unattended when the Rapture hits!

Plus there's the ultimate "manana" thinking: "This is the last time I pay taxes! This is my last semester! I don't need to do XYZ, the Rapture is going to come!"

The web site had a banner about "The Rapture is coming," and I said to [profile] americanstd, "Well, I'm not gonna be there." I'll be damned and a mature adult, thanks.

It's not just for "fundies" anymore ...

... too many of the policy-makers behind the scenes, in the governments of Canada, Britain and the USA, believe it too.
Be afraid ... be very afraid ... and ask what the [foul-word] is being done with our tax dollars. Be it cretinism (i.e. "intelligent design"), faith-based charity initiatives, bans on abortion, or the general suppression of any heterodox, rational, or skeptical views, it will all be the same nonsense.
Sigh.
