Well, Wednesday was great...It took longer than I had hoped for to get out to Stony Brook, but that worked out well for Heidi. We chatted for a while, then headed over to the University to visit her boyfriend and check out the current Forum. Gary's lab was cool, and I understood what he was talking about. Then we went down to the Forum, and it was great! But in many ways, it was the same...and that was comforting. The usual people hanging around, the library was Huge, and as we hung around, all sorts of neat people popped in and said hello. As usual, the university politics hate the Forum since it is so successful, but is filled with those "freaks". And, today as back then, there was talk of moving it off-campus...although things are little bit more serious today. There is talk of corperate sponsorships and such...

Later, we hung at Heidi's really cool apt., it is a "loft", a large open space, with a half-floor providing a sleeping/bedroom area. It is in a a really nice area, near the Sound. But, like most lofts, there is no privacy and sound travels very well...so after fiddling with her computer, Gary came over and I played some guitar, and we listened to Jezzer's album that I produced. We broke up around 2 am....Gary went home, I went to a hotel, and Heidi crashed.

Thursday, I checked out of the hotel, then hit the CompUSA to buy some ethernet cords for Heidi...the vac-head from Cablevision who set up her computer connected her via the USB port, because he said the PC she had didn't have a ethernet port....Duh! It was behind a small panel. So I picked up a straight through cable and a crossover cable...so after a bit of fiddling, I was able to get her up on ethernet for her cable modem, and away she went at a much faster speed!!

We then went out and Heidi did some errands, and I had the best Bagel I've had in a year...nothing compares to NY bagels! And everything that is called that in the Charlotte Area is a cruddy immitation of the real thing.

So we went back to Heidi's place, and chatted until around 6 pm so that I was leaving after the rush hour.

The drive back was fairly uneventful...there was a little bit of congestion on the LIE, and I had a bit more going over to the Brox River Parkway...but otherwise an uneventful drive.

I got to my Aunt's place, had McDogfoods, and since I hadn't gotten a lot of sleep the previous night, read then crashed early.

Today, I slept in and then finished the Alan Dean Foster book I was reading. At around 6:30, I went over to try the WiFi access at McDonalds...and that is where I am now...It is easy to set up, and all you have to do is connect, pull up your browser, click O.K. to their acceptable use policy, and away I went. You only need a log in if you need support. There is only one thing that is missing for this to become a decent internet cafe...and that is wall plugs...I am running on battery, and I am lucky that this old compaq has really good battery life!

So, I will probably be back here tomorrow, as my WiFi access at my aunts has disappeared...maybe the person who was running it moved the antennea, as the signal strength has all but disappreared, and I can't get a consistant connnection...or maybe it is just the weather...

p.s. FilkerDave I don't know if we can get together this time...maybe next! I'll try and call tonight.
