Thanx again to [livejournal.com profile] insomnia for his excellent coverage of things important.

Read the article here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/insomnia/475252.html

And below is my comment.

Stupid things happen during a war, that is part of the definition of war. And part of the reason that war is evil.

That doesn't mean that those involved are evil, although some may be. More often, it is just people barely out of their teen years scared shitless trying to be brave (and usually succeeding), and trying to do the right thing, and not always succeeding.

That said, it is upon the shoulders of our leaders that the blame ultimately rests. US troops have been given a job they are not trained to do in a place where they don't understand the culture...and it is Vietnam all over again. If for only this reason, President Bush and his people should be removed from office, with the blood of thousands of people, American, Iraqi, French, Italian, and many of the nations of the world's people who have gone to Iraq to either help, work or report on what is happening.

I think we all pretty much agree that there wasn't enough though given to this course of action, either in the decision to invade, or planning for the aftermath. And that is killing people. Now. Every Day.

If only it could be fixed by simply removing the forces from Iraq, but the US screwed up the situation, and it is the US's responsibility to fix it. And the responsibility for that is on Bush's shoulders.

Bush has never fought a war. Bush has never been under fire. When your life is in the hands of those around you, and their life is in your hands, you gain a perspective that those who have never been there will never understand. Kerry has been there, and he would have though long and hard about going into Iraq, and we would probably be talking about some other world news now, rather than the death of thousands of lives lost in a war that should probably have never happened, and was badly planned.

And you ask, "Why, are you a General with years of experience to say it was badly planned?" No, but the fact that people are still dying is far too much evidence of the lack of planning.

So if you think we should have a commander in chief who has never been under fire, fighting a war that has truly global consequences, then vote for Bush, but if you want someone who knows what it is to be shot at, who knows from personal experience that evil things happen in war, and thus everything possible must be done to not go to war...and to wage war when there is no other possible avenue left...Vote for Kerry.

I hate that this has a political message, but it is just too important to get Bush & Co. out of control of the US. People are dying because of Bush & Co.'s ill advised actions. And I cannot remain silent.
