ZZTop, Semi-live
Jun. 20th, 2008 10:01 amWell, last night,
popelaksmi and I went to see at the B/r/i/t/a/n/n/i/a/ /D/r/i/v/e/ /I/n/ Coliseum to see a concert video of ZZTop. We thought it would be a nice evening of listening to the band, with concert level sound, and a big screeen, and we only got half of that...the big screeen, and almost didn't have that either!
First, the concert starts, and it is that pseudo-artsy technique where the music plays, but it's onlike they only display every 10th frame or so...but it kept on going through the whole song! So
popelaksmi goes and complaints...they reset the video, which was being streamed via BellExpressVue, and we had the picture part working fine...unfortunately, there was no surround sound, and no bass. The Pope goes and complains again, and they fiddle with the sound, and we get the surround, but still no bottom end of the audio. So I go out, and they screw around and around, but it's like they have the system on "simulate surround", and there is no ".1" channel, becuase there were certainly subwoofers working during the 3+ times they played Pink Floyd's Money before the show, and the "This broadcast sponsorted by..." blips.
The show itself wasn't all that great, either...it was ZZTop Live in Texas, and I don't know if it has been broadcast before or released on DVD, but the editing was not all that great.
If I find that the show is available on DVD, I may rent to see what it really looks and sounds, if is only as good as what we saw, I might consider another similar type show, as I could blame the bad quality of experience on the original material....but if it is good, then I definitely would not recommend anyone go to one of these broadcast type events at the Coliseum.
I'll keep people informed.
