Carpal Tunnels, and Beats & Boards

Well, it's about a week since I got my left hand operated on. I had been having some tingling and loss of feeling on the tips of my hands, and my doctor recommended that I have the surgery done, especially since I am not employed at the moment. The surgery was one of the most entertaining surgeries I have ever had! It was done on local anaesthetic, so the surgeon started chatting....and we almost immediate dropped into Science Fiction, and it turns out that he is a huge science fiction fan! So, when I go in to have bring him a flyer for CAN-CON. This year, our guest of honour is Jo Walton. And we have a new chair this year. I've stepped down as my mom and my mental well being have, I feel, degraded my performance as chair, and I Derek Kunsten was interested in chairing. I had hoped Pope Laskmi was going to take over, but she as far to much going on in her life at the moment. So far, Derek is doing OK, but Laskmi pointed out that Derek probably didn't realize how much work she an I did behind the scenes. But, it Derek does a decent job, it will mean that CAN-CON will have a good chance of outliving it's founder's involvement. That is something that a lot of organizations fail to do.

This past Tuesday, I went down with Laskmi to the Beats & Boards gathering. Basically, it is a social event at a cafe where they play board and tabletop games (card games, etc). It was a lot of fun.  I know that I have for the past year or two become more and more of a recluse...but not intentionally. So I am working on getting out more. This was one of a number of events I hope to maybe attend regularly to help stave off reclusiveness.  The other part of this is that they have live DJs playing music during the event. I am looking at doing a DJ stint, and doing it all oldskool electronic...Vangelis, Jarre, Kitaro, Carlos, Tomita, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk etc. and them maybe move into older danceable  electronic music, like remixed Kraftwerk, Rational Youth and the like. We will have to see.

As soon as my hand heals, I have two projects. I have someone who wants me to digitize their record collection, and I want to start recording music. I am looking at approaching this from two directions...first starting with acoustic guitar and laying down tracks, then adding to them with synth. The second is to lay down electronic rhythm tracks, and then add synth and guitar over them.

So, I am slowly trying to put myself back together...a piece at a time....
