A friend and I were talking the other day about how our most important fight against the Conservatives is to "preserve our Canadian values" - when did *we* become the ones trying to preserve things?

When the Conservative Parties of both Canada and the US were taken over by Fundamentalist Christians. That's when things changed. :-(

I was just thinking about this the other day. I'm for protecting your land (in the "it's my property, I'll do what I want on it" way), small government, freedom to do what a person wants as long as it doesn't harm anyone else--and both liberals and conservatives are pointing and screaming.

I am not so much anti-Conservative/Republican as Anti-Theocracy...

I am not so much for small government, rather, wanting to get the most value for my dollar of tax. But I am *sure* that when all was said and done, I had less money in my pocket per dollar earned while I lived in the US compared to living in Canada, and I get more services from the government in Canada.

I also feel more free in Canada, I don't feel like there are huge swaths of the country that I could get beaten up in if I happen to be with someone who is openly gay/bi/transgendered...and there *are* huge swaths of the US where I would be risking my life and limb.
