I have been led to believe that it's common in Japan to have square watermelons... It's cool to see a picture though!

It looks simple to do...You just need to figure out the volume of a watermelon of the type you want to grow, and make a hinged box to put it in like the one above.

I heard about thos emelons a few years back. Also w.r.t. to Japan. I think it was a Japanese person who "invented" them. If I am remembereing correctly they were shaped that way so they better fit in the fridge. Unfortunately they cost a lot more than the regular ones. I forget exactly how much, and the price may have come down but it was originally a LOT more.
