Well, yesterday, I went up to Raleigh to have my brains sucked out by Cthulu, and was very successful!

First, the Friar and I met at his hotel, and drive to the city in his car. We found a parking space right across the street from our destination...my parking karma kicks in again!

And our destination was Exploria, a small general museum that consists of two floors, and an IMAX theater. We wanted to see the museum, but we were mostly interested in what they were showing on the IMAX screen...first Pulse, which the Friar had see most of, and then the Matrix Reloaded. We got into the museum for free because of the Friar's Museum card, and so we just had to pay for the movies....so we explore the museum...It had a great Tibet exhibit, with a wonderful story about the Dali Lama...on two walls were photos of Tibetian people, with a short paragraph describing the person, what they did, and their relationship to Tibet. Well, the Photographer had a photo shoot with the Dali Lama, and when the went to greet him holding out his hand to shake hands, the Dali Lama hand slid past the photographers, and ticked around the waist!

There was also a nice relaxing exhibit that had some music by Ry Cooder and this other person's who's really good, but I can't remember their name, and a "Junior Captialists" exhibit that was kind a distirbing. We finally ended up watching a short film in a small theater which had a great sound system, but the lights were totally reversed to what they should be doing...when the movie ended, the lights went down, in stead of vice versa!

We then walked over to the Museum of Natural Science, and saw the usual Natural Science stuff...we only had a half hour since it closed at 5pm. So, we walked about the car, looking for a place to eat...and we found an Irish pub just down the street. It was called Tir-na-nOg, Irish for the land of the Ever Young...and had Excellent hamberger. At that point I started to half regret that we had ticked to see Pulse, as there was an Irish band playing at 6:30....but what happened next made up for all the regrets.

We left the pub at 6:30 to be over at the IMAX early enough to get good seats if there was a crowd...but as we walked up to the box office, we heard drumming from the courtyard just beside it...in honour of having Pulse, they had an open drum circle before the movie!!!! Well, I love drumming, but haven't done much of it since my last drum was stolen...so they handed the Friar and I some drums, and away we banged until about 10 minutes before the movie. Wow, that felt good!

So then we watched Pulse, and if you love percussion, this is the movie for you. Not to be confused with the live movie by Pink Floyd, it is a celebration of perucussion and rhythem all around the world...each segment is bookended by a short number by the NYC group Stomp. Which was interesting, as they have an uncredited appearance in the Matrix Reloaded as the purcussion band playing for the dance in the first part of the movie.

The next movie was The Matrix Reloaded...and it was worth watching again in IMAX...unfortunately, I had taken a large amount of painkiller for my knees, and dozed off a couple of times....but otherwise it was very awesome to see it in such good sounds and screen.

We then went back to The Friar's hotel, and I jumped in my van, and started to head home...after about a hour of driving, I realized that I was too tired to drive safely, and pulled into a Motel6, where, for 33 dollars a night, I was able to crash until about 10:45. I dozed until about 11:30, then really got up, dressed and out the door. and I arrived back home about half an hour ago.

what a day! Thanx Friar for inviting me up!
