Well, I picked up two new CDs, one is a series of remixes of Berlin tunes...you know, the band that did Sex...I'm A..., Take My Breath Away, Metro...all were quite dancable, but the remixes have upped the BPS, pulled out most of the backing tracks, and left the lead vocals, and some of the lead-synth/sequencer lines. The remix of Take My Breath Away is almost trance-rave, they obviously had access to the original tapes, as they have done some wonderful stuff, muted the vocals so that it sounds like she is whispering them, and added lots of echo to the piano...works well. Some songs are closer to the orginal, others just use the vocals as hits and breaks. But well worth the cost to introduce a new generation to the music of Berlin.
The other CD is by Deepsky, who I just recently saw. I was impressed, as I mentioned in the review...so I went and bought one of their CDs, the most recent one I could find, which was from last year. The opening track in some ways reminds me of the first cut on the first Klaatu album...but this one, rather than sound like a record being put on and skipping slightly, sounds like an intermittent short that is being jiggled. Drove me crazy the first time I heard it, but after the next couple of times, I got a good laugh out of it. Thid band also makes use of Stereo...things bounce between channels, move around, and the "field" of sound is complex and interesting. There are things comming in from all over the "stereo arch". There is a lot of variety here...one of the best cuts on this CD is Cosmic Dancer (2002 remix)...and Ride is pretty good too!
Well, it's late, and I need to crash...so good night!
