Well, it seems that Canada has a law that disallows non-Canadians from attempting to influence Canadian elections. And Mr. Moore has been quoted as saying "What I hope that Canadians will get out of this is to get people out to the polls to make sure Mr. Harper does not become your next prime minister."

Of course, this is being spearheaded by the Right Wing minority in Canada, and I would not be surprised if it is picked up by the US media later on today.

Mr. Moore's recent movie has recieved a lot of press about how it seems to paint "Bush43" as a despot. Well, a movie made half a century ago can teach you how to spot despotism in action...and after seeing things like how the Supreme Court decided the election, and Bush's regime floating the idea of finding a way to delay the election, the movie's message seems very relevent today. In fact, I would recommend it to people as much as I recommend they go and see Fahrenheit 9/11, no matter what your political pursuasion is.

BTW, this movie is in the public domain, and I expect that someone will soon re-image the movie with clips from today....also notable is the US Pledge of Allegiance without the reference to God...

Well, the latest attempt at converting Asimov's Robot stories to the screen has just been released, and it should be intersting...It will be judged against the Robin Williams' vehicle "Bicentenial Man", based upon a later Robot story. One might say that the new movie is a Will Smith vehicle as well. The fact that these stories can attract such star power is a tribute to their power. The fact that they end up having so little to do with the stories they are based upon says a lot about Hollywood.

Realistically, one should probably view this movie as a new piece of fiction based in the Robot universe...I wonder if they will ever explore the juntion of the Robot universe with the Foundation universe...

There is an excellent article discussing the new movie on the New York Times web site...registration required...you can read it here

I haven't seen the movie myself, but I will soon.

It fits the pattern, it was a preventable accident....all it would have taken is a bit of intellegence...but here is a quote from the Canada Press story...

"Robinson and Artavis Walker, 23, were lighting fireworks and throwing them out their car's windows the night of June 28 when a cigarette fell into the back seat and set off the remaining fireworks."

It seems that Garry Trudeau, artist/writer of the famous Doonesbury comic strip, went to Yale with the ever loveable Geoge W. Bush. And Trudeau's very first published cartoon was about Bush...

From the CTV Newsnet article:

"Trudeau said he penned his very first cartoon to illustrate an article in the Yale Daily News on Bush and allegations his fraternity, DKE, had hazed pledges by branding them with an iron."

Trudeau later in the article says: "It does put one in mind of what his views on torture might be today."
