Canada's public broadcaster, CBC has for a long time made the nightly national news program, The National, available on the web. So I thought that I would post the direct link to it on my blog here, so that those who are interested, can watch it.

As well, for Linux people, you can use Open Source mplayer or xine to play it, as the new RealPlayer for Linux doesn't have the older codecs because of some licensing problem, I would guess. For example, if you have the right codecs loaded for one of the two above open source program, you can just type:
xine http://www.cbc.ca/MRL/clips/national/thenational.ram
On a command line and watch The National. For example, I use the -f and -g switches so that it would play full screen, and not show the controls. In fact, on my main system, I am watching the Monday edition of The National, while I am writing this on my laptop. Linux is certainly growing up.

p.s. Since it is produced for Newfoundland and Labrador, it is available earlier than it is for Eastern, Central and Western Canada, so you can actually see the news before it is played on your local CBC station!
