Skype...some first impressions...

Well, it works...but it's not that great.

The big thing that it seems to lack is decent echo cancellation. This is a major basic need for decent telephony, and I've tried Skype for Windows, and two different version of Skype for Linux. Frankly, it sounds about the same quality as the old CB radios...and sometimes worse.

Oh, well, what can I expect for free...and yes, I have been fiddling with all the different suggestions in the FAQ and info areas on the Skype site.

Skype is ok sometimes, sometimes not. I've had great calls go through before, but once when I was trying to call a cousin (an important call) there was so much static i couldn't get anything said clearly.

I am on it, but not often at the moment. I only go on to call my friends in England or Ireland.
