The Collossal Cave Adventure turns 30!
Aug. 14th, 2007 11:15 amMany people today spend hours (...and days...weeks...years?) playing interactive adventure games. Be they massive online games like Everquest, or you against the computer games like Half Life, they all owe a debt to the original adventure game, the Colossal Cave Adventure.
The best known version of this game is attributed to Crowther & Woods, but until recently, the original source code created by Will Crowther was thought to be lost. But a recent discovery on an old tape has turned up the original Fortran source code for the Colossal Cave Adventure. There is a great article about the game and it's history & roots here, and you can pick up the original source code here
An interesting look at a bit of computer history!
