There is no "just" about it. Rick Warren was one of the engineers of promoting Prop 8, which took the right to marry away to gays and lesbians in this state. He doesn't even believe that civil unions (called "domestic partnerships" in California) should be legal.
Furthermore, the religious right in this country is starting to die. There are more moderate Republicans, such as myself, who want to drive a stake through its heart, and Obama has just given it more energy!
There is NO excuse for him choosing this man to say his invocation. NONE.
Of course, I'm equally bothered by the fact that there is an invocation at a federal function.
