As much as I like the various CSI shows, I find that they are somewhat formulaic. On the other hand, "Crossing Jordon" has lots of twists and turns, things you assume turn out wrong, and you are guessing until the end of the episode. But if you go back over it, you see it was all forshadowed. I enjoy the writing, the charactors, and the idea that if someone does wrong, someone will care, and try to find out the truth. This is not the first time I have mentioned this show, and it probably won't be the last.

This espisode was somewhat bitter-sweet. Story wise, it was interesting since the main star, Jill Hennessy who plays the title role, didn't appear in this episode. As well, Steve Valentine, who plays the staff Know-it-all, is absent. We get to see the work of the newest member of the cast, Jennifer Finnigan, who plays Devan, an ME in training, and her acceptance by the Head ME. In many ways, she is like Hennessy's charactor, someone who digs and digs and digs until the truth is found, even if it bothers people. Miguel Ferrer, who plays the Head ME, Dr. Garret Macy, and Ivan Sergei who plays the troubled Dr. Peter Winslow share the spotlight for one of the two storylines in this episode. Macy and Winslow get called out to a crime scene, but along the way, find a male body in the middle of the road with a purse beside him. Macy immediately works to revive the person, and succeeds, but Winslow just stands by, doing nothing, and looking kinda freaked. And he was. Just before the end of the espisode, we find out that the reason he became an ME is that he originally was going to be a regular doctor in a hospital. But he couldn't handle the responsablity and the pressure to do the right thing, always, and he resorted to using drugs to self medicate himself. He didn't even want to be a doctor, but had gone to medical school to prove to his family that he wasn't a screw-up. Doctors have an increadable load of responsablity and operate under increadable pressure, and only the most devoted and driven should have the lives of people placed in their hands. Imagine, charactor revelations, and backstory...a rare commodity in most TV shows.

The revived person dies at the hospital, seemingly of injuries from behing hit by a car...but Dr. Macy is sure that victum was in much better shape, and should have survived. After a hostile encounter with the doctor who is in charge of the Emergency Room, who worked on the victum, Macy suspects a rat...

A second storyline concerns Jerry O'Connell (Of Sliders fame) as Detective Woody Hoyt, and a ME whose nickname is Bug, played by Ravi Kapoor. I bet you could figure out what his specialty is...They are investigating the shooting death of a reporter who was covering a very high profile story about a modelling agency who in reality was a front for prostitution specializing in providing underage woman to the rich and powerful. The reporter had gone through increadable lengths to protect his informant, a 16 year old who he called Natashia, and this causes some problems for the investigation.

But the bitter-sweet part of this episode is the role of Dr. Flynne, the ER Head Doctor, who is played by Richard Biggs. The role was not a stretch for him, as he played Dr. Stephen Franklin in Babylon-5. On May 22, 2004, he died of a massive stroke. This episode was one of his last roles.

Well, that's it, I hope you didn't mind the spoilers...

I personally like NCIS far better than any of the CSI shows. It's got a very hot forensic scientist that dresses goth beneath her lab coat. Rowr...

NCIS is another good show. The charactor of Abbie the Hacker Goth Grrrrl is the best female hacker charactor since Angelina Joilie in "Hackers". Both definitely hot!
