ConCarolinas

Well, today (Sunday, that is) is the last day of ConCarolinas...and while they got some good things right, the got a number wrong...The programming was great, the panels that I sat in on were fun, and fairly original, as much as panels can be after 40+ conventions I have attended...But the one thing that really bothered me is the con-suite. Now as an former Consuite runner, I feel that the Consuite should be the place of last resort for people at the con...that is, open fairly late, like 2-3 am at least, for people to be able to have a place to unwind after any programming/parties. Otherwise, you get people hanging around the lobby, and that makes the hotel staff nervous.
The dance was not well attended, but the lead-in, Klingon Karaoke, was. Lots of fun, I even got up and sang the Monkees Daydream Believer. People didn't run. I used the DJ's effects box to add a tad bit of echo that makes all the difference in making people singing sound bad or tolerable. One even said "Thanx for making me sound really good!". It is another thing pushing me towards looking more seriously into the music business, specifically engineering and producing.
I ran the turntables for a while, as DJ Pistol(pup) went off the see Rocky Horror. This one woman basically danced by herself for about 3/4 of an hour towards the end, loving what I was playing. It's that wonderful synergy of when you connect with people who are dancing connect with you and what you are playing.
Well, it's three thirty in the morning, I need to take some pills, then crash so I can get up early to see the final panel with Alan Dean Foster on it, and maybe get an autograph for a friend.
G'night!
