First, let me just say that I have discovered a great treasure on-line. It's called Pagan Pentagram Radio...and I have been listening to it almost constantly for the past week or so. They have a great selection, ranging from The Eurythmics, Heather Nova and Peter Gabriel, to Loreena McKennitt, Sarah McLachlan, and music from Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings. Plus a lot of other wonderful stuff.

One piece of that "wonderful stuff" is a group called Ulaki. It is a trio of First Nations women that sing acapella, and it will just blow you away. WOW! [livejournal.com profile] kattale will probably love them if she doesn't already know of them. So this led me to try and find information on them on-line, and I first ended up at Amazon. And a link there brought me to a person's list of Canadian Celtic music, and to an album that I didn't know existed, but which I will have to aquire very, very soon...Fire In The Kitchen by the Chieftens & Friends. Basically, it was a Halifax Kitchen Party that grew into an album. Some of the top names from the East Coast of Canada's Celtic music scene are on it...Great Big Sea, The Rankins, the Ennis Sisters, Leahy, Ashley McIsaac, Rita MacNeil, Natalie MacMaster to name a few...and the Chieftens are the backup band...WOW (I know it's repetative, but I can't help it...) WOW.

Next post will be about the unemployment hearing....

Great Big Sea is awesome...for some reason they hit Charlotte fairly often...about once every 3-6 months...so I've seen them 2 here, and missed them a couple of times too. Check my post below for the link!

Got a question for you, oh "God of hard to find music"...
I used to have a cassette tape (now lost) called "Mountain Stage Live", a live American show. The tape i had was a collection of Canadian musicians unplugged, and included a breathtaking version of Crash Test Dummies' "Superman Song" where the woman's harmonies blow away the radio-station version. It also had Moxy Fruvous doing the Rush Limbaugh song, the Cowboy Junkies "Misguided Angel", and possibly some Loreena McKennit or Sarah McLaughlin, not sure about those last two.

Anyway, i tried to order a new copy for myself from the record store, and they had a *lot* of listings of Mountain Stage Live - i guess they release a lot of collections from their live performances - but they had no record of the Canadian unplugged collection that was my cassette.

I thought i'd bounce it off you, see if you could dig up anything on it... It was some *awesome* music... sigh...

I'd be interested in your pagan radio station too. Wondering - i have Rogers' Light internet, would that screw up any bandwidth limitations they might have? (Don't know if they do - sympatico did).

hugs,
kat

Well, the closest I can find to your description is Mountain Stage Live Vol 3, which has:

Alex Chilton
Bruce Cockburn
Cowboy Junkies
Crash Test Dummies
Jo-El Sonnier
Marshall Crenshaw
Mary-Chapin Carpenter
Sarah McLachlan
Texas Tornados
The Fabulous Twisted Sisters
Timbuk 3
Warren Zevon
Yo La Tengo

That's as close as I can find...but...there's a place called http://www.musicrebellion.com that has all of the albums in a downloadable format so that you can just get the songs you want from it...and there are a number of other Canadian artists who are not on volume three...Daniel Lanois, Barenaked Ladies, another Cowboy Junkies song, Violent Femmes, Holly Cole, Jane Siberry, Sorry, no Moxy Fruvous. So you can put together your own CD/tape of just the Canadian artists, or any others you like. And at .87 a song it's not too bad...but that is US$...but the Lunie is on the rise....

As for Rogers...I will have to take a look and see what their acceptable use policy is...If they don't allow that amount of bandwith, and it is not that great...then can always record a few hours every once in a while and mail you a cd full of MP3s, which will be about 6 hours of music.

Fire In The Kitchen

Yes, you do need to get a hold of that one! I don't have a copy myself, but it's been on my "if I ever see it, buy it" list!
